Are you suffering from this?
I hope not.
Let me explain what I mean…
You see, if you have a bucket with a few crabs at the bottom then inevitably they’ll try to escape.
The funny thing is…
As soon as one crab begins to climb up the side…
The other crabs club together…
And pull the escaping crab back down.
Then another crab tries to escape.
And exactly the same thing happens.
It’s like the crabs are saying “If I can’t escape, then neither can you”…
So the crabs all stay in the bucket…
And the charade continues forevermore.
Pretty interesting right?
But it’s not just crabs where this effect occurs.
It takes place with humans too.
You see, there will always be people pulling you back…
Impeding your progress…
Or stopping you reaching higher.
These people might be faceless.
Like online trolls or society as a whole.
But they could also be people you spend the most time with or who are closest to you…
Like colleagues, friends or family.
There are many reasons why this happens.
They may envy what you are striving for…
Wish they could pursue the same things…
Or be battling with their own internal issues.
Now, with crabs it’s physical…
You can see the mechanism in action.
It’s obvious what’s happening.
But with humans, it might be less obvious.
And unlike the crabs, it might not even be intentional.
Like a well-meaning suggestion which knocks you off course.
Or criticism disguised as praise.
So what’s my suggestion?
Be aware that this can happen.
And make sure you’re not being pulled back to your previous level by other people around you.
Because the truth is…
It is possible to escape.
If you focus on Your Why…
Keep your boundaries healthy…
And surround yourself with people who lift you up and propel you forward, rather than pull you back.
