128 years ago, London's Tower Bridge was opened to the public.
It was 1894 and at the time it was largest and most sophisticated bridge ever built.
It was (and still is) one of the most recognisable bridges in the world…
And it’s noted as a feat of Victorian engineering.
I’ve crossed the bridge many times and it still amazes me every time.
The imagination to come up with the idea. The effort that went in to building it. The incredible creativity of the engineering.
Not surprisingly the bridge became known as the “Wonder Bridge”.
However…
No matter how amazing the bridge is…
It still has the same function as every other bridge.
It takes you from A to B in the shortest distance possible…
Without you plunging to your death in the revolting grime of the Thames.
To my mind, this is an interesting way of thinking about our goals…
And how we approach getting from A to B in different aspects of our lives.
Like learning a language. Getting in shape. Or figuring out your next career step.
You start one side of the river (point A) and the change you want is on the other side (point B).
The deep water is almost 150 feet below. It’s choppy, cold and full of three-eyed fish.
You have 3 options:
- Jump in to the water (possibly to your death) and try to swim across
- Go around, taking the “long way” and trying to figure out how to get to point B on your own
- Take the “short way” and cross the bridge
Just about anyone in their right mind is going to take option number 3.
But let’s be honest…
Not all bridges are made equally.
Sometimes the bridge is too long. Or too wobbly. Or crumbling beneath your feet.
No-one wants to cross a bridge like this.
Instead, we want short bridges that take us from A to B safely, with the minimum of fuss.
It’s a bit like if Tower Bridge was replaced with a high-speed travelator.
It gets you quickly to the other side, and you don’t need to worry about the drawbridge coming up.
With that being said…
One thing which a lot of people are thinking about at the moment is their jobs (point A).
Some know that they want to leave point A, but have no idea where point B is.
Others know exactly where point B is, but aren’t sure how to get there.
I can sympathise…
Because that’s exactly where I was.
I went on my own journey to figure this out…
And after a lot of introspection I got the clarity and confidence I needed.
So if you’d like help figuring this out, I can support you.

Together we can get you clarity on your goals…
Work towards achieving them…
And build a travelator that takes you safely and reliably from point A to point B.
