Here’s my tried and tested thirteen step plan to end up hating your job:
1. Fall into a job instead
of taking the time to decide what you want to do for a living
2. Make sure your work makes no impact in the world (at least, in your eyes)
3. Make
sure your work doesn’t interest or excite you
4. Don't delegate your work
5. Work longer hours than everyone else
6. Lose sight of the fact that work isn’t your life
7. Put the needs of your workplace over your own needs
8. Don’t tell people you’re overwhelmed. Keep it to yourself
9. Do everything you’re asked to do. And then do even more
10. Prioritise your work over friends, family, relationships, health and hobbies
11. Reduce the hours you sleep. Make sure you’re low on energy when the day starts
12. Don’t identify your values. Or identify your values, then choose a job inconsistent with them
13. Get promoted. So you’re doing everything above, just with more responsibility
So if you want to hate your job, you now know how.
