One thing I didn’t expect when I started writing these emails is how they'd impact different parts of my life.
But they have.
Running is a good example.
I’ve found that writing about running has improved my 5k time.
This might sound strange.
How can writing about a physical activity improve my
performance in it?
Well, there are a couple of reasons.
The first is
this:
Writing about a topic means I need to have something useful to say.
I need to have thought about the topic and done some research.
In other words, writing about running has increased my understanding of running.
And applying an increased understanding can lead to better results.
The second is this:
I don't want to write about how I'm trying to improve at running or aiming to do a 10k in a certain time…
And then not do it.
The emails help to keep me accountable. And this helps me get better results.
And the third is this:
Writing about running creates dialogue.
More people are talking to me about their running and sharing tips.
And this help me improve too.
Now, I never expected any of this when I started writing these emails.
But it’s reminded me that if you have something you’d like to improve at or achieve…
Telling people and talking about it can help.
Especially if you share with the
right people.
It could be a work goal (like getting a promotion, a new job or making more money)…
Or it could be a life goal (like learning a language, climbing Snowdon or going on a few dates).
Whatever the goal, it’s worth asking…
Who have you shared your goal with? And who else can you tell?
Worth giving it a go right?
That’s it for this morning.
Hope you have a good day.
