If you’ve ever wondered “am I working too hard?”, you might relate to this…
I had grand plans for this email today.
But my mind isn’t working like it usually does…
Probably because of the weekend I just had.
On Saturday I hit Park Run at 9am.
On the way there I chatted with a friend on the phone…
And after the run I spoke with another good mate for an hour or so.
I had a pub crawl on Saturday afternoon with a bunch of buddies I hadn’t seen in a while.
That ran for the rest of the day…
And the socialising continued in to Sunday.
An early morning visit to friends with a new baby…
Over to Wimbledon for a paella and wine double date lunch…
And stopping off at my parents for a catch up on the way back home.
That’s a long of saying I had a weekend of non-stop socialising.
It was super fun and I loved every second of it.
Now, the thing is…
These kinda weekends are rare for me.
I usually prefer having more downtime.
But once in a while it’s great to have a jam-packed weekend like this.
And all weekend I was thinking about what I’d write in today’s email.
After a while I landed on a cool email idea about how to make better decisions.
But when I sat at my laptop this morning, the email wasn’t flowing.
The idea is good but I found it difficult to put to paper.
However…
Perhaps it’s not surprising I’m not firing on all cylinders this morning.
I feel a little groggy after the weekend…
…and I don’t think the heat is helping either.
So I’ve shifted gears. And I’m writing this email instead.
And I think today is going to be more chilled than usual.
And you know what?
A year or two ago I would’ve dwelled on this...
By telling myself I should still be super productive and on my
A-game...
Even if I wasn’t feeling it.
But over time I’ve learned to go a bit easier on myself.
Because the thing is…
I know there will be productive days.
But there will also be days where I'm not in the zone in quite the same way.
And that’s okay too.
In fact, I’ve found it's beneficial to think this way.
Eliminating my negative self-talk and being kinder to myself helps me navigate work and life more
effectively.
Plus we all need to recharge our batteries every now and again.

Either way, maybe something to bear in mind.
