Asked my PT Zack for advice on fitness over Christmas.
I always find periods like this tricky.
I want to enjoy myself. Scoff lots of turkey, chocolates and mince pies and quaff a few glasses of wine.
But I also don’t want to undo the last couple of months.
And I don’t see Men’s Health suggesting Toblerone and Merlot as the route to rock hard pecs and a peachy rear end.
So I’m conflicted.
Should I go easy on naughty food and drink, and crank out a few festive workouts?
Or should I forget about fitness and let my hair down?
Maybe there’s a halfway house?
Zack listened intently, then gave his advice:
“It doesn’t matter what you do. It’s up to you. But whatever you do, do it consciously. Make a decision and stick to it”.
I love this.
What Zack’s saying is
something I like to talk about too.
And it’s this:
Live with intention.
Make decisions to shape your life, rather than just letting your life unfold.
Put
another way – decide what’s important to you, then go after it.
Because my belief is this:
If I’m not living with intention and creating my own path, I’m living someone else’s life.
I learnt this one the hard way.
It’s how I felt in my old job. I was on a conveyor belt.
Life wasn’t in my hands. Instead, I was being carried along.
It look me a long time to catch this. And it took me even longer to do something about it.
It’s only when I figured out what was important to me and zoned into this that I started to take back control.
And now the feeling of “life passing me by” has gone. I’m in the driving seat, not the passenger seat.
Make no mistake. None of this was easy.
Figuring out what you want isn’t straightforward. And staying on your path can be hard.
But help is at hand.
Coaching is the remedy.
So if you’d like support with figuring out your goals and going after them, drop me a line.
That’s it for
today.
