This trick has helped me become more productive.
I stole it from Elon Musk.
Elon runs three of the biggest companies on the planet and has his fingers in countless other pies.
So if there’s anyone to learn time
management skills from, it’s him.
Have you ever wondered how he copes with his competing priorities?
He uses a system which is pretty basic, but gets the job done.
And it’s this:
Elon allocates every day of his week to one company.
And he sticks to it.
He doesn’t flit from company to company.
Sounds straightforward doesn’t it?
It’s known as “day theming”. Devoting days to a specific area of work, rather than mixing and matching throughout the day.
There’s a lot to be said for
this approach.
I’ve started to do something similar myself.
Instead of
splitting my weeks by days, I split my days by AM and PM.
I guess you could call this “half-day theming”. But the idea is the same.
I spend each half-day on a specific category of work.
In the morning I do “productive” and “creative” stuff.
Like writing these emails.
I know from experience my writing flows much better in the morning. So that’s when I write.
And in the afternoons I do calls and I coach.
This gives me time to prepare for sessions and allows me to switch in to coach mode.
I find this setup
works well for me.
And thinking about time management techniques like this gave me an idea.
The idea is super simple…and I want to see if it floats your boat.
Would you be interested in a challenge to help you manage your time more effectively?
It would work as follows:
You’ll get a short email from me every day for 5 days. It’ll take no more than 5 mins
to read.
The email will contain various prompts.
Prompts giving you
ideas, structures and routines all related to managing your time.
And because it’s you answering the prompts, you’ll come away with insights and actions tailored just for you.
So…
Should I create this challenge?
It won’t be free, but it won’t be expensive.
And one thing I can promise you is this…
You’ll recover the 5 mins spent reading each email many times over. During the challenge, and beyond.
Think of what you could do
with all that extra time.
Reading a book...
Spending more time with a
friend…
Going for a walk…
Or watching another episode of Great British
Bake Off.
But I’ll only create the course if there’s enough interest.
So if you’re interested, hit reply and say “interested”.
That’s it for today.
Until next time.
