I lived in the “Hogwarts of the UK” for 6 years.
That’s right.
The City of Edinburgh, with its cobbled streets, majestic castle and haggis, neeps & tatties (sloppy, sludgy food which could’ve been served straight from a cauldron).
And while I lived there, I took the plunge one day and signed up for a few improv comedy classes.
I’d read somewhere that improv can help build confidence and reduce anxiety. And I thought it was worth a shot.
I remember entering a dark and dingy room underneath a pub just off the Royal Mile, and seeing a few nervous faces.
I was feeling angsty myself. I was taking a leap into the unknown. Not just by signing up to new classes, but by signing up to classes which were totally unknowable.
After all, improv is all made up on the spot.
Like the ad-lib “Yes, and…” game we played a few times.
The
game was very simple. Someone would suggest a scene (like a married couple who’ve lost their keys), two people would take on those roles and the game would begin.
The idea was simply to say “Yes, and…” and then speak whatever came to mind.
Like “I think I saw your keys on the kitchen worktop darling”…
“Yes, and I think I saw a squirrel kidnap them…”
“Yes, and
those squirrels are notorious key-snatchers…”
“Yes, and we’ll need to find a squirrel translator to negotiate their release…”
“Yes, and some acorns to bargain with could be a good idea...”
And so on.
And guess what?
I was rubbish.
Okay…
I wasn’t rubbish. I was TERRIBLE!
Any distant dreams I had of appearing on Live at the Apollo vanished in a flash.
But even though I was terrible, I still went back the next week, and the week after that.
As the classes went on, I found myself enjoying it more.
And yes, it became easier too.
More to the point, I felt
good for stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new.
I was still lousy. But I wasn’t nervous about it like I was before. I started to be
more okay with the fact that I had no idea what each session had in store.
And I think there’s a lot to be said for getting a bit more comfortable with uncomfortable
situations like this.
Because the unknown isn’t what stands in our way.
Instead, the unknown IS the way. “Not knowing” is simply how life works. It’s the path we all follow every day, whether we like it or not.
And rather than trying to figure everything out so you do know or pretend you know everything, to my mind a much better strategy is this:
Get used to operating in the unknown.
So when I heard that my friend Ocean Kiani (yes, this is her real name) was running an online program designed to help people get more comfortable with being uncomfortable, I knew I needed to share it.
The program is called Unfold.
And it’s not your standard wellness or personal development program.
See, Ocean strongly believes in bringing more play and fun into our adult lives. This is why she created Unfold.
The program incorporates a range of tools like movement,
improv, play and mindfulness. All to help you develop a sense of calm, get you out of your head and into your body, and move you from “doing” mode to “being” mode.
And you know what? I think Ocean’s program sounds awesome.
Which is why I wanted to share it with you.
If you want to check
it out, here’s the link:

Now, you might be wondering how much this program costs.
When I chatted with Ocean, I thought she’d say the price would be at least $1,000.
See, the way the program unfolds is based 100% on who signs up. The heart of the program is how personalised it is.
Another way of saying this is that by joining Unfold, you’re shaping the very nature of the program in a way that means you'll get the most out of it. Not someone else.
If I’m being honest, I think $1,000 would be a steal for such a tailored, customised program.
But to my surprise, Ocean set the cost at just $500. Which really is awesome value for what the program offers.
And you can even split the payment into two instalments.
But
that’s not all…
I asked Ocean if there’s anything she can do for people on this newsletter.
And she said yes.
Ocean’s agreed to an additional discount just for you guys. The first three people who sign up to Unfold using the discount code BLOOMING10 will save $50.
So the program will cost just $450 for the first three people who sign up.
And to sweeten the pie even more, I’ve added two of my own bonuses into the mix.
I’m running two special, standalone webinars for anyone who signs up for Unfold before 1pm PT/4pm ET/8pm GMT/10pm CET on Thursday 20th
July:
Webinar 1: Wisdom on Demand. This webinar will explore how you can relieve stress, make impossible decisions feel painless and move through life with more ease and flow using your own innate inner wisdom. We’ll dive into what I mean by “inner wisdom”, and how you can find it, use it and trust it
Webinar 2: Peace amid Pressure. We’ll talk about how to avoid turning events into problems and problems into catastrophes. And I’ll be
sharing my thoughts on how to stay calm and clear when life gets tough or throws you a curveball
To claim your spot on these webinars, all you need to do is forward me your
Unfold receipt by 1pm PT/4pm ET/8pm GMT/10pm CET on Thursday 20th
July.
Once you do that, I’ll sign you straight up to the bonus webinars.
But you need to email me your receipt by the deadline. After the deadline, the two bonus webinars will be gone.
So if you’re interested in Unfold, don’t hang about.
