One of the smartest people who ever lived?
I’d say Isaac Newton has a rightful claim to this particular crown.
The brainy boffin single-handedly changed the game for science and maths.
And his mind-blowing discoveries are responsible for hi-tech inventions which we take for granted today (as well as being responsible for groaning schoolkids up and down the country).
All from a measly apple falling on his head!
But there’s another side to Newton which is less well-known.
Behind his mathematical mastery, Newton had various struggles.
He was a bit of a loner while studying at Cambridge. He only made one friend during his time there, and often wrote in his diary about his anxiety, fear and sadness.
Later in life, Newton had a relentless drive to be perfect in his work. Almost too relentless and too perfect, as it led to an insatiable need for order and control which meant he was constantly re-arranging items in his lab and washing
his hands dozens of times a day.
Today we might call this OCD.
And by now you might be wondering…
Am I claiming that Newton’s brainy ways was what caused his struggles?
Well no. I’m not claiming that, nor am I qualified to make such a claim.
But I am claiming this:
It strikes me that someone who knows
they’re clever (or even hyperintelligent, like Newton) could place great stock in their brain…
They could see their brainpower as crucial to their
success…
And yes, they could even place too
much emphasis on their brain and forget about ways of living which exist outside their head.
Ways of living like playing. Moving. Resting. And relating.
And don't get me wrong. I’m certainly not judging anyone who uses their brain a lot. After all, thinking can be helpful (especially if you’re a bit of a smarty-pants).
But I don’t think it will surprise you to hear that thinking too much can be really unhelpful. That it can lead to missing out on a richness to life which exists outside our heads.
What richness do I mean exactly?
I mean the joy of going with the flow...
The
peace that comes with being present and in the moment...
The deep connection you can find with yourself and with others...
And the energy which comes from simply feeling alive.
All of these are available when we’re not wrapped up in our heads, thinking, planning and analysing.
And for any bright sparks wondering how they should think to find more joy, peace or calm, my answer would simply be this:
Think less.
Another brainbox, the renowned Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, once said “Life is not a problem to be solved. It’s an experience to be had”.
I think this sums it up nicely.
And if any of this is piquing your curiosity, you might be interested in checking out my friend Ocean Kiani’s online program Unfold.
The program incorporates a range of tools like movement, improv, play and mindfulness.
All to help you develop a sense of calm, get you out of your head and into your body, and move you from “doing” mode to “being” mode.
If you want to check it out, here’s the link:

Now, you might be wondering how much this program costs.
When I chatted with Ocean, I thought she’d say the price would be at least $1,000.
See, the way the program unfolds is based 100% on who signs up. The heart of the program is how personalised it is.
Another way of saying this is that by joining Unfold, you’re shaping the very nature of the program in a way that means you'll get the most out of it. Not someone else.
If I’m being honest, I think $1,000 would be a steal for such a tailored, customised program.
But to my surprise, Ocean set the cost at just $500. Which really is awesome value for what the program offers.
And you can even split the payment into two instalments if that's easier on your cash flow.
But that’s not all…
I asked Ocean if there’s anything she
can do for people on this newsletter.
And she said yes.
Ocean’s agreed to an additional discount just for you guys. The first three people who
sign up to Unfold using the discount code BLOOMING10 will save $50.
So the program will cost just $450 for the first three people who sign up.
And to sweeten the pie even more, I’ve added two of my own bonuses into the mix.
I’m running two special, standalone webinars for anyone who signs up for Unfold before 1pm PT/4pm ET/8pm GMT/10pm CET on Thursday 20th
July:
Webinar 1: Wisdom on Demand. This webinar will explore how you can relieve stress, make impossible decisions feel painless and move through life with more ease and flow using your own innate inner wisdom. We’ll dive into what I mean by “inner wisdom”, and how you can find it, use it and trust it
Webinar 2: Peace amid Pressure. We’ll talk about how to avoid turning events into problems and problems into catastrophes. And I’ll be
sharing my thoughts on how to stay calm and clear when life gets tough or throws you a curveball
To claim your spot on these webinars, all you need to do is forward me your
Unfold receipt by 1pm PT/4pm ET/8pm GMT/10pm CET on Thursday 20th
July.
Once you do that, I’ll sign you straight up to the bonus webinars.
But you need to email me your receipt by the deadline. After the deadline, the two bonus webinars will be gone.
So if you’re interested in Unfold, don’t hang about.
