According to this article, every self-help book ever written can be whittled down to 11 core pieces of life advice.
From the first self-help book published in 1859 (imaginatively titled “Self-Help”) right up to the present day.
So if you want some short, pithy words of wisdom which have stood the test of
time, look no further.
I hereby present the crème de la crème of tips and insights:
1. Take one small step
2. Change your mental maps
3. Struggle is good. Scary is good
4. Instant judgement is bad
5. Remember the end of your life
6. Be playful
7. Be useful to others
8. Perfectionism = procrastination
9. Sleep, exercise, eat, chill out, repeat
10. Write it all down (journaling, gratitude diaries etc)
11. You can’t get it all from reading
A solid list if ever I saw one.
And number 11, in particular, is a doozy.
Consuming content (books, podcasts, TikTok shorts – whatever your poison) can only take you so far. If there’s a challenge you’d like to overcome or something cool you’d like to create, at some
point you’ll need to jump into action mode.
I daresay bullet points 1 to 10 could help you do this.
Something else which could help
you?
