Let’s fast forward the clock to 31st December 2024.
(or your digital device if you’d prefer – I think a few analog-averse Gen-Zs have snuck onto my list
recently)
Here’s my prediction:
For the majority of people, nothing much will’ve changed.
Now, I don’t think I’m going out on a limb here. This prediction isn’t all that bold.
In fact, it’s as timid as they come.
Take a look around and you’ll see the truth of
it.
Most people you know are probably in the same job they were in 12 months ago.
They probably look like they did 12 months ago. Maybe they’ve put on a couple of pounds.
The way they act and react, where they go, what they say and who they are is probably very similar to 12 months ago too.
The one thing which might’ve changed?
Their salary. It’s probably a little higher than it was 12 months ago (it might’ve gone down in terms of spending power, but that’s a story for another day).
Bottom line:
Change is hard and humans are creatures of habit.
Hence my totally timid, common sense prediction.
Of course, a lot of people are living lives which are fine & dandy and they don’t
want anything to change.
But I don’t think everyone feels this way.
For some, the thought of another year going by without much changing might be icky.
And I get it. It’s how I feel. It won’t be too long before I hit the big 4-0, yet in some ways I still feel like I’m 20 years old and just getting started. And I know the next 20 years will go by just as quick (or quicker) and the thought of not fully embracing what life has to offer feels like a missed opportunity and an almighty shame.
My suggestion for anyone who feels this way too?
I like the old Chinese proverb which says the best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The second best time is now.
Because I agree. There’s no better time than now to plant whatever trees, flowers, fruit or vegetables you’ve been wanting to plant, yet never got around to.
So what if now was the time to turn down the dimmer switch on your overthinking & stress to live a calmer, more peaceful, more pleasant life?
What if now was the time to start the ball rolling on your passion project, big dream or outlandish, spectacular goal? That thing you’ve always wanted to go after, but timing was never quite right.
What if now was the moment to
get more certainty and clarity on the direction you’re heading?
And what if right here, right now was the time to find more fulfilment in life? Rather than waiting for the “perfect moment” like starting a new job, your kids leaving home or your retirement.
In my experience, this perfect moment doesn’t exist. Wait long enough and you’ll be pushing daisies before it comes along.
Yes, this might sound morose.
But if change is something you want, there really is no better time than now.
The way I see it, you have three choices.
You can do nothing and watch another year go by. If that’s
what you want, no harm no foul.
You can start to make changes by yourself. Maybe you’ve tried this before. If so, you’ll know it’s hard. Not impossible, but hard.
Or you can work with someone who knows
how to spark that change in others.

That’s all for today.
