We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds (with suspicious minds)
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious
minds
So sung ol’ snake hips himself back in 1969.
No question about it:
Elvis
certainly knew how to belt out a catchy & memorable tune.
So catchy and memorable, in fact, that many of his lyrics have worked their way into our daily lingo and become their own pearls of wisdom.
A little less
conversation, a little more action?
I daresay a few folk could heed the message baked into that particular one-liner.
But when it comes to suspicious minds, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll hit a bum note.
Well ‘n’ truly.
I’m sure there are times when it doesn’t pay to be suspicious.
But from where I
stand, a certain suspicion & a healthy scepticism about our minds is just what’s called for.
I’d go so far to say that our mental wellbeing and even our overall experience of life is inversely proportional to how seriously we take our thoughts, how significant we think our thoughts are and the stock we place in our own thinking.
Notice I didn’t say anything about the quality of our thoughts or how many positive or negative thoughts we have.
Instead I said how we relate to our thinking.
I know this flies in the face of typical advice which tells us to think more positively or reframe a negative thought.
But thoughts themselves aren’t the problem.
The problem is we believe our thoughts. We take them at face value instead of seeing them for what they are.
And if you’re getting all shook up by the endless stream of thoughts which are always on your mind and you’d like to return some of those thoughts to sender, exploring your relationship with thought could be
worthwhile.
I’m going to talk more about all this in a free Zoom training I’m putting on next week.
I’m calling the training Mind over Matter.
The theme of the training?
The best way to use our minds and stop our minds from using us.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday
15th May 2024 at 10am PST/1pm EST/6pm UK Time. It will last about an hour.
If you’d like to join, hit reply and I’ll send the details straight over.
That’s all for today.
Have a great weekend.
