Strange but true:
There were a handful of peculiar thoughts which dominated my mind on & off for years while I ploughed my frazzled furrow in the first iteration of my corporate banking job.
These weren’t thoughts like “how do I get a promotion?” or “how do I get a pay-rise?”
Oh no.
These were nagging, subtle, shadowy and major-league thoughts all about the direction of my career
and my life. Thoughts which my friends & colleagues weren’t having (if they did, they didn’t let on) but which I was having relentlessly.
I mean thoughts like:
*** Am I fulfilling my potential?
*** Am I living life true to myself?
*** Is this what working life is supposed to be?
*** Am I
ignoring a “nudge” to do something different?
*** Am I being carried along like a passenger or am I the driving seat?
To say these thoughts disturbed my peace of mind would be an understatement.
They CONSUMED me.
Rarely would a day go by without one or more of these thoughts rearing it’s ugly head and me jumping on the merry-go-round of that thought and going round & round in mental circles.
The more of these thoughts I had, the more headspace they took up and the more life the thoughts took on.
And the more life they took on, the more unsettled, weary and angry I started to feel.
Thing was, these thoughts looked important. They dug into some of life’s key questions.
So I spent untold hours and energy trying to solve them.
But try as I might, I couldn’t find the answers.
About 18 months ago, about the time I came across the Inside-Out Understanding and took my 7 month certification with Michael Neill, it slowly started to dawn on me:
Analysing my thoughts to try to find the answers was looking in the wrong direction.
Instead, I began to see how the answers lay in the invisible place where those thoughts came from.
On the Mind over Matter webinar I ran a couple of months ago, I called this place Clarity.
On my recent Wisdom on Demand webinar, I called this place Knowing.
You could also use words like
potential, creation or possibility to describe this place.
But the words you use don’t matter.
What matters is that this place exists and it’s where peace of mind resides.
I’m not sure if the frazzled Tom from three or four years ago would’ve been able to see this. There wasn’t much free headspace for new ideas with all those big-time thoughts rattling round.
But perhaps just hearing this place existed would’ve given me a glimmer
of hope that there really was a way to turn the dial down on thoughts which, at the time, were so all-consuming and looked so fundamental.
I will also say this:
Knowing just how overwhelming and exhausting it is to be
gripped by thoughts which other people might not understand is a big part of why I’m not just Tom the Banker nowadays, but I’m Coach Tom too.
I’m chomping at the bit to pass on what I’ve learnt to anyone who can relate to unwanted thoughts taking root up top rent-free.
Speaking of which…
Until GMT 7pm tomorrow, I’m promoting a new offer:
90 minute Peace of Mind Laser Coaching Sessions for £200
I’m all-in on helping others to quieten their minds.
So much so that if you take me up on this offer and feel like you haven’t connected with a deeper sense of mental calm and peace of mind after the 90 minute session, I’ll give you a second session
for free.
The session itself doesn’t need to be taken before 7pm tomorrow (we’ll find a mutually convenient time).
But it does need to be claimed before then.
If you’re interested or you’d like to find out more, first step is to reply to this email with “Peace of Mind”.
And we’ll take it from there.
That’s all for today.
