By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be boss and work twelve hours a day - Robert Frost
Today’s email isn’t for the couch potatoes or the procrastination pros.
If that’s you, come back tomorrow.
Today’s email is a friendly reminder for hard-working hustlers, movers and shakers to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Especially at this time of year with the
sweet & spicy scent of mulled wine on the stove and the cool sprinkle of snow in the air.
These are the moments why you’re working as hard as you are.
So my suggestion is:
Make the most of it.
Spend time with your family.
Go see that concert, play or panto.
Enjoy a glass or three of Graham’s 20 year old tawny port (good old Graham).
Spend half a day where you shamelessly put YOURSELF first.
And bask in the warm glow of knowing you earnt it.
I know it sounds cheesy, but these opportunities won’t be around forever.
Besides, you can stay late in the office, answer weekend
emails and stress about your job for weeks and months to come. Even years, if that's your jam.
Especially given the “do more with less” attitude which is becoming increasingly common across most corporate workplaces (from what I can see anyway).
I know you didn’t ask for my two pennies’ worth.
But, then again, back when I was in the thick of grinding out 12 hour days, it would’ve done me the world of good to take my head out of the manure to smell the roses every once in a while.
So I say all this for what it’s worth.
Before I wrap up:
If and when you decide you’d like more balance, less pressure and more satisfaction, here’s a
possible next step…
