Have I told you about Emma, my partner-in-crime in the office?
She is, for all intents and purposes, my “work wife”.
Rarely does a day go by without some back-and-forth banter or friendly
teasing.
And while Emma was nattering away recently (she does this a lot), she switched the conversation to my daily emails (she also reads this newsletter – hi there Emma!) and said:
“You know what I realised Tom?
Your emails have a similar vibe to Carrie’s column in Sex and The City”.
“Oh really” I replied. “How’d you mean?”
“Well, the way you write them. They’re kind of casual and quirky – but you also do a lot of
wondering and questioning too. They can be quite reflective”
Before we could pick this apart, we agreed it was time to get back to work.
But I tucked that nugget away for future reference.
When I woke up this morning, eager to put finger to keyboard to dash off today’s email, this little exchange popped to mind. I couldn’t help but wonder if I’ve been following in Carrie’s footsteps.
So I went straight to
Google.
Turns out Emma was right!
As I scrolled through Google Images I came across a couple of Carrie’s columns.
One was called “To Pee or Not To Pee, that is the question”.
For some reason this made me think of a reflective email I sent out recently called “Distractions speak louder than words”.
Another column by Carrie was called “The Finance and “Alone” Department”.
I mean, that could describe any one of the multiple occasions I found myself working away in the office late at night with just the cleaner and an empty sandwich wrapper for company.
I’ve written about this a lot in this newsletter too.
It’s almost as if I’ve been channelling my inner Carrie each & every time I pen my daily missive without even realising it.
So is the world of journalism calling? Might I snag a “Diary of a Born-Again Banker” column in the Evening Standard?
I don’t know about that.
But one thing I do know is
this:
The more reflective I am with my writing and the more reflecting I do too, the more I uncover about myself and the world around me.
It’s almost as if reflection is a shortcut to a clearer and more fulfilling
life.
As it happens, this also gets to the heart of my coaching.
My coaching is a reflective space where we can dive deep, explore your thoughts and find clarity on the things that matter most.
If you’ve ever felt the need to hit pause, step back, and really think about where you’re headed or what’s truly important to you, it might be just the ticket.

That’s all for today.
