It’s Friday, 10.14pm.
This is the first time I’ve written a daily email with a snoozing baby strapped to my chest and my laptop perched on top of a wicker laundry basket.
But desperate times
call for desperate measures.
Lauren’s asleep, bambino’s asleep and I have a crumb of an opportunity to bosh out another daily email.
The clock is well and truly ticking though.
At any moment, Baby Grundy could spring into life with a wiggle or a gurgle and cheerily demand a bottle of the white stuff.
I could have 5 minutes or I could have 5 hours.
So I’m typing furiously and it feels like I’m building a bridge as I walk across it.
This was never how I wrote my emails before Baby Grundy burst onto the scene.
Before the bibs and bottles took over, each email had its own neatly planned writing slot, booked at least a day in advance (in my mind and with Lauren).
Writing these emails now is all about finding 5 mins here or 10 mins there and just going with the flow.
You can’t plan diddly squat with a seven week old baby.
Actually, correction:
You can plan.
But as an old-school general once quipped - no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
And as the infamous boxing philosopher Mike Tyson more eloquently put it – everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.
Of course, Baby Grundy isn’t the enemy. And the only thing likely to punch me in the face is an aromatic uppercut from her backdoor danger zone.
But the point around planning holds true.
And if it wasn’t for Baby Grundy, I’m sure I’d still be spending a bunch of email time planning the emails rather than just writing them.
Turns out having no time to plan has been the best planning system I’ve ever had.
By the way (and since I mentioned my planning predicaments):
If you’re signed up for coaching with me, I’ve just sent you a link to my calendar so you can book your next slot.
But Baby Grundy’s in charge of the rest of the calendar right now.

p.s. it’s still all quiet on the western front.
Time to lock & load this bad boy for Monday morning,
before that changes…
