Over the weekend, I read 2/3rds of Wayne Dyer’s autobiography I Can See Clearly Now.
This follows a Wayne Dyer wave I’ve been riding since I wrote about “The Father of Motivation”
in a daily email the week before last.
This wave has seen me flicking through the various Wayne Dyer books on my bookshelf, unboxing two new Wayne Dyer books via Amazon and getting sucked into all things Wayne on the YouTube rabbit hole of doom.
As it happens, one of my all-time favourite Wayne Dyer quotes has also just inspired me to create a brand new coaching program. I’ll be writing more about that soon.
In the meantime, one aspect of I Can See Clearly Now which I’ve lapped up like Baby Grundy laps up a bottle of milk is Wayne’s book promotion
strategy.
By the time Wayne hit send on his final manuscript, he’d penned over 40 books, most of which were NYT bestsellers.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing to get there.
When Wayne released his first book, Your Erroneous Zones, he had a successful therapy practice and he’d built a name for himself as a university professor. His classes were so popular, his students would often queue out the door.
When it came to books though,
Wayne was a complete unknown.
But he decided to go all in on his writing.
Wayne closed his practice, quit his professorship, loaded his car with copies of Your Erroneous Zones and drove around the U.S., visiting
radio stations and bookstores to promote his book.
The gamble paid off and the book became a national bestseller.
Not only that, but today the book is one of the bestselling books of all time, having shifted
over 100 million copies.
All of which has got me thinking how I could promote my own yet-to-be-released book which now (finally!) has a title:
Title: Don’t Quit Your Job
Subtitle: How To Beat Burnout And Get Your Groove Back At Work
(thanks so much if you threw a title suggestion or two my way. I read every single one, I loved the range of ideas and I was grateful to everyone who wrote in)
So am I about to take a leaf out of Wayne’s book? Will I be quitting my job for a second time to embark on a road trip round the UK’s radio stations and book shops with Lauren and Baby Grundy in tow?
That would be a bit off brand for Don’t Quit Your Job now, wouldn’t
it?
Luckily, I don’t need to.
See, one of the advantages of a newsletter like this is that I can do a promo tour from my office instead.
And that’s where you come in.
Do you have a community (e.g. a podcast, newsletter, online group…) which might be interested in Don’t Quit Your Job?
Are you part of a community which might be interested in Don’t Quit Your Job?
Or do you have a day job? If so, would you be up for leaving a few copies of Don’t Quit Your Job strategically dotted round your office? (next to the office stress ball perhaps?)
Whatever the case, I’d love to hear from you if so.
As you might’ve gathered, I don’t have all the details for this promo pinned down.
But I’m very open to conversations and creative explorations as to how we could make it mutually beneficial for you to promote Don’t Quit Your Job to your audience or someone else’s audience.
One more thing before I wrap up:
I’m on a bit of a mission with this book.
I know just how stressful, exhausting and overwhelming some jobs can be and I know first-hand how burnout can creep up on anyone.
Because I’ve been there, done that and come out the other side, this is something I care deeply about. I want stressed-out bankers, lawyers, marketers and other professionals to know that it’s 100% possible to find a more relaxed, easy-going approach to work without changing anything about their job, just so long as they know how.
I’m hoping you’ll join me on my mission.
I look forward to hearing from you.
