Recently, the comedian and podcast host “ceciatl” posted this on Twitter:
The things you are drawn to naturally matter a lot. They are clues. Your job is to figure out why
I’m not
so sure about that, ceciatl.
Yes, it’s well worth paying attention to whatever you’re drawn to.
But figuring out why?
That’s not your job at all. Your only job is to follow it.
If you’re drawn to study law, study law. If you’re drawn to play the ukelele, play the ukelele. And if you’re drawn to hop on an Easyjet flight to see the sights, meet a bunch of new people, sip cocktails by the river and wake up the next morning with the mother
of all hangovers, then go do that.
But figuring out why is just a recipe for turning what you’re drawn to into a problem you need to solve.
You might not know why you're drawn to what you're drawn to until
years later.
You might never know.
But you don’t need to understand the pull. You just need to be willing to follow it.
I realise that “go play the ukelele” might sound glib. Knowing you want to do something and actually doing that thing are different kettles of fish, after all.
That’s why I created my 6 month 1:1 program The Music Inside You.
If you feel pulled towards something that matters but you're delaying, over-analysing or tying yourself in knots, The Music Inside You will help you stop talking yourself out of it.
